Raphael Pinheiro Machado Rehm is a PhD-Student working in the MicBin joint project since January 2018. Within the MicBin project Raphael measures and models the export of microplastic from agriculture areas caused by soil erosion and surface runoff within the Danube catchment of Germany.

He did his MSc in Geography at the University of Augsburg and to carry out his master thesis he got a scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the Indo-German Centre for Sustainability of the IIT Madras. His MSc thesis deals with small scale variability in soil hydraulic properties in a headwater catchment of the Indian Western Ghats.

His research interests include:
  1. Monitoring mass transfer/microplastic transport by soil erosion
  2. Sources and pathways of microplastic in (agricultural) soils
  3. Analysis of the behaviour of microplastic particles in terrestrial ecosystems
  4. Measuring and modelling of soil hydraulic properties
