Transitions in the Global South

In geographical Transformations and Development Research we deal with questions about livelihoods, vulnerability, migration, institutional arrangements and power relations in peripheral regions under the influence of globalization, post-colonialism and post-socialism. Current and accelerating processes and forces such as climate change, modernization projects or the commodification of everyday practices are challenges and often existential threats that communities in the Global South face. Different research projects analyse these complex situations by focusing on environmental change, natural resource management and mobilities, working towards pointing out inequalities and environmental problems as well as the interests and needs of marginalized communities, to demand social justice and to initiate political transformation processes.
