In contrast to the Pacific El Niño phenomenon which has been intensively studied for a long time, only few studies have focused on warm water events in the southeast Atlantic and their impact on regional and global scales. Although it has already been shown that such events influence the local ecosystem and regional rainfall, comprehensive studies considering the impact on African precipitation based on a long-term record period are lacking. Considering teleconnections and future projections, only few studies exist. Therefore, this project was dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of warm and cold water events in the tropical southeast Atlantic including their regional impact and global interactions in present times and future projections.
