as well as further professorships of Physical Geography (Prof. Dr. Arne Friedmann), Geoinformatics (represented by Professor Dr. Sabine Timpf), Regional Planning and Development (Honorary Professorship Dr. Konrad Goppel).

In regard of teaching, the Institute is offering a graduation course in geography as well as the whole range of courses required by students attending teacher training college. Next winter term 2008/09 we intend to offer a Bachelor Course. In addition, Geoinformatics can be studied as a minor subject.

Following the appointment of new professors at the Chairs of Human Geography, Geoinformatics, Physical Geography and Quantitative Methods in 2004 the entire field was reorganised with main emphasis on Geoinformatics and Climate and Enivronment Research. The latter field is in inter-disciplinary co-operation with the Environment Science Center WZU.

Particular emphasis is on:

  • The geographic information systems and their applications (GIS) as well as modern methods and applications of empirical human geography in, among others, city and regional development,
  • Climate Research, in particular climate dynamics and climate change, corresponding relevant methods and modern field as well as laboratory methods in landscape research and biogeography.
